Today, we're going to be looking at what you should do when your custom sign company is taking too long to get you a quote.
We've been in the custom sign business for over 10 years and we'd love to share our expertise with you.
In this post, we'll give you some helpful advice about what you should do if your custom sign company is taking too long giving you a quote. We’ll also explain some of the reasons as to why this might be happening. So let's get going!
If you aren’t getting your signage quote when you need it, take action
What to Do if Your Custom Sign Company Is Taking too Long to Get You a Quote
Signage is important for any business. Whether you are ordering a new storefront sign, interior signage or special signage to advertise a promotion or sale, you need to get it made and installed in a timely fashion.
Having to wait can cost your business money. If your custom sign company is taking too long in getting you that quote for signage that you have requested, here is what you should do.
1. Send a Reminder
Whether by email or by a phone call, sometimes a gentle reminder is all that is needed to get your quote. Perhaps the quote has been prepared and there was a misunderstanding about getting it to you. Be assertive but polite.
Or, maybe there was an error with your contact information and it was sent to a wrong address or a wrong phone number was used. Mistakes can happen. If that is the case, then a simple reminder could be all that is necessary to solve the problem.
Email or call your custom sign company to remind them that you are waiting for your quote
2. Explore Your Options and Tell the Company You're Doing So
If there hasn't been a mistake or misunderstanding and the company simply hasn't prepared the quote yet, then it would be a good idea to let them know that you are going to be checking out other options.
This might be enough to get them going on your quote if they know that they might be losing your business.
It will also let them know that they need to make sure that their quote is competitive as you will be looking at what their competition can do for you. If they really want your business, they will get you that quote as soon as possible.
Check out other custom signage companies and go with one of them if you still don’t get your quote
3. Take Your Business Elsewhere
If you still don't get a quote from your custom sign company, then it's probably time to take your business elsewhere.
You have given them every opportunity to provide you with what you want and since they haven't, it's only reasonable to find a custom sign company that you can trust.
Reasons Why Waiting Too Long for a Quote Is a Red Flag
Besides being a frustrating situation to be in, there are other reasons why waiting too long for a quote is a red flag.
Not getting your quote on time could be a red flag, making you think twice about using that company
1. You are not their priority
Sometimes the reason that you are waiting a long time to get a quote could be that you are not a priority to this company.
If the sign company has larger projects that they are working with, they may not consider your business as a priority. However, it is a priority to you!
Having effective signage is vital to the success of your business and the longer you have to wait for it, the more potential sales you are losing.
It's probably advisable for you to find a custom sign company that considers you as a priority and provides you with fast service accordingly.
You should work with a custom sign company that treats you as their priority
2. They are too busy
Another reason why your sign company is taking so long to get you a quote could be that they are too busy and haven't been able to get around to it. This is similar to the first reason, but slightly different.
It's not that they don't think your business is big enough so it's not a priority, but simply that they just don't have the time to get the quote done. They are too busy making and installing the signs that they have already given quotes for.
Sometimes what happens in this situation is that if you keep asking them for a quote, they may end up giving you one that is much higher than it should be, hoping to either delay you, get you to forget about the quote, or accept it.
If you do end up accepting it, you're probably paying much more than you should for the project, but the sign company will probably make room for you because they will be making more money from you. This is not the best situation to be in.
On the other hand, even if you finally do get a reasonable quote from them, they may be so busy that they end up rushing through the job or cutting corners just to fit you in. Again, this is not a good situation to be in.
You should choose a custom sign company that has the expertise to know how to do what you want
3. The company is not sure how to do what you want done
If you are asking for a particular type of sign that the sign company has never done before, they may be taking more time trying to figure out if they can actually do what you have asked.
They don't want to turn down your business, but because they have never attempted what you are asking, they must research and try to guess at how long and how much it will cost to do.
The problem with this situation is that you are paying for a professional result while your sign company is learning as they go.
If you suspect that the type of signage that you have asked for is something new for this company, ask to see samples of other signage that they have done that is similar to your requested project.
