The legibility index means that for every 1 inch of your capital letter font, your sign can be ready at the corresponding number of feet away.
For example, if your sign has a legibility index of 26, then that it means that it should be legible from 26 feet away with one inch capital letters. If your capital letters are 10 inches, then your sign should be legible from 260 feet away.
